Thermostats are available in each suite for the comfort of residents. Your heating/cooling system can be set to maintain a specific temperature, or adjust the temperature depending on a schedule that the resident sets.
Please note: your HVAC system has safety parameters on how high or low you can set your temperatures in your suite to prevent the freezing and overheating of your HVAC unit.
Staying Warm
- Heating Actuator: Located near your front door, near the cooling actuator. Ensure the grills in this area are not covered to allow proper airflow.
- Living Room Heating: Controlled by a fan-coil unit and a thermostat which is typically found near the suite’s entrance. Adjust the thermostat to increase heat and set your preferred fan speed.
- Optimal Comfort: Set a schedule on your thermostat to maintain your desired temperature throughout the day. Avoid blocking air vents in your bedroom or kitchen to prevent damage to the HVAC unit.
- Warm-Up Time: If your room feels cold when the thermostat is set to “HEAT” or “AUTO,” it may take up to an hour to warm up.
Staying Cool
- Cooling Actuator: Located near your front door, near the heating actuator. Keep the grills in this area clear to enhance cooling circulation.
- Central Air Conditioning: Available throughout the building. Use a small fan to circulate air in your room during hot days. Position the fan outward to expel heat during the day and inward to bring in cooler air at night.
- Blinds and Cooling: Close blinds during the day to keep the room cooler. Personal air conditioning units or other cooling devices are not allowed.
- Optimal Cooling: Set a schedule on your thermostat to maintain your desired temperature. Avoid blocking air vents to prevent damage to the HVAC unit. If your room feels warm when the thermostat is set to “COLD” or “AUTO,” it may take up to an hour to cool down.
Your Thermostat in the “Auto” Position
Keeping your thermostat in the “Auto” position, both for fan speed and heating/cooling, allows for the system to operate only when needed. This helps to save energy, but also maintain a consistent temperature in your space.
10 Bay Residence staff recommend setting temperature thresholds using Automatic mode, and scheduling when appropriate.
Scheduling Your Thermostat
When programming your thermostat, consider when you normally go to sleep and wake up. If you prefer to sleep at a cooler temperature during the winter setting your schedule for these needs is the best way to have your thermostat work on your schedule, it makes sense to adjust the temperature during those time periods to fit your preference. You can also save energy by setting your thermostat to a lower temperature when you are away from your suite.
