Unit Description

Housing and Conference Services (HCS) directly supports the University’s goal of advancing human and societal wellbeing and overriding vision of ‘educating for capability’. We currently provide a distinctive living and learning experience for 3600 students focused on key educational priorities including community development, personal growth and wellness, academic excellence, and inclusion.

Embedded within Housing and Conference Services (HCS) is the Residence Education department, which is comprised of a Residence Education Coordinator, a Research Coordinator, a Residence Education Programs Associate, and the Manager, Educational Initiatives and Assessment.

In the role of Project Assistant, the successful candidate will work directly with the Residence Education department to develop, promote, deliver, and assess student programming and/or events that are in line with the learning goals of our six Living Learning Communities (LLCs). These communities are: Entrepreneurs in Residence, Health & Wellness, Leaders & Influencers, Sustainable Futures, Wilson College, and Women in Leadership. Job Description

Under general supervision of the Residence Education Coordinator, the successful candidate will assist with the planning, promotion, implementation and assessment of various projects and events for the Residence Education department. Work is performed in accordance with standard procedures and guidelines.

Each Project Assistant will assist with various events and projects within the Residence Education Department, but may be primarily assigned to a few of the six LLC communities. These communities include: Entrepreneurs in Residence, Health & Wellness, Leaders & Influencers, Sustainable Futures, Wilson College, and Women in Leadership.

The LLC-PA role offers the opportunity to:

  • Flex your creative and critical thinking muscles.
  • Gain experience in a variety of areas, such as administrative tasks, marketing and communication, and program and student development.
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners and gain valuable leadership experience.

Roles & Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Reports to the Residence Education Coordinator.
  • Develop, deliver, support, and assess LLC programming and events for community members.
  • Support and attend CA, Res.Ed. Coordinator events and Faculty held events.
  • Create and distribute promotional materials for events, workshops, initiatives, LLC research, etc.
  • Assist in managing social media accounts for LLCs and enhancing student engagement.
  • Organize, deliver, and inventory supplies.
  • Develop and lead student leadership groups for first-year students in residence
  • Continual correspondence with community members to keep them up to date with upcoming programming and events.
  • Work collaboratively with the Res.Ed. Coordinator, campus and community partners to implement the LLC and First-Year curriculum for themed communities.

Work Terms:

  • Hybrid – some flexibility to create your own schedule; some in-person hours will be required, including some weekday evening shifts

Timeline:

  • July 27, 2025 – August 23, 2025 = up to 3 hours per week; scheduled as needed;
  • August 24, 2025 – May 1, 2026 = 10-15 hours per week

Scheduled Work, including but not limited to:

  • LLC PA Training – online (asynchronous) and in-person training (late August – date TBD)
  • LLC Team Meetings (exact dates TBD) – 1.5-3 hours
    • Late July/Early August (virtual)
    • Late August/Early September (in-person)
  • Early January (in-person)
  • Weekly Student Leadership Team Meetings (LLC Common Rooms) – up to 2 hours per week
  • Monthly LLC specific meetings with Residence Education Coordinator (virtual) – 30 minutes-1 hour

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: 6 months of related experience

Assets

  • Experience and/or knowledge of topic areas addressed by any of the six Living Learning Communities.
  • Experience developing and delivering programming and/or events for students.
  • Experience creating social media content and/or graphic design.
  • Experience in organizing and leading student group(s) is an asset.
