Convocation Hall – McMaster University
Located on the second floor of University Hall, Convocation Hall offers a stunning and historic setting for a variety of events. This elegant space features:
- A beautiful, character-rich atmosphere, with striking stonework and elegant stained-glass windows.
- A raised stage, ideal for presentations, performances, and ceremonies of up to 200 guests.
- A piano available for rental, perfect for musical performances and special occasions.
- Versatile seating options, designed for comfort in both banquet and theatre-style arrangements.
- Important note: events cannot begin before 6:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Whether you’re hosting a formal gathering, lecture, or celebration, Convocation Hall provides a timeless and sophisticated backdrop for your event.
- Internal McMaster departments/faculties may request to book using the Event Request Form.
- For external requests (all other groups) please complete a Space Request Form (Non-McMaster).

Capacity:
- Banquet Style: Up to 170 guests (17 round tables, 72” each, seating 10 per table)
- Theatre Style: Up to 200 guests
Please note that additional tables, AV equipment, or other setup requirements may reduce capacity.
Rates:
- 2025 Daily Rate: $1,026
Rates do not include the mandatory Facility Services setup fee and/or custodial cleaning charges.
Convocation Hall does not include tables or AV equipment; however, our Conference & Event Services team is happy to assist with coordinating rental of necessary setup items for your event.

Audio Visual

Set-Up
The standard setup for Convocation Hall is theatre style with a center aisle. If you require an alternative setup—such as banquet rounds, a vendor showcase, or a poster presentation with display boards—rental items may be coordinated through Conference & Event Services.
Once your event date is confirmed we can assist with coordination through rentals@mcmaster.ca. To provide an accurate quote, including estimated labour fees, please provide a floor plan of your desired setup.
Even if no rental items are required, Facility Services must still provide cleaning or chair setup for theatre-style or empty-space bookings. All internal requests must include a Chartfield number for processing work orders and room rental payments.
To ensure a seamless event, please confirm your expected number of attendees and preferred setup with Conference & Event Services at least 10 days prior to your event date.

Food
Catering is coordinated through Hospitality Services. View menus online at McMaster Catering, and contact catering@mcmaster.ca or 905-525-9140 (ext 24836) to discuss and finalize your selections.

Keys
Event organizers must sign keys at the Commons Service Desk, which is open 24 hours. Keys must be returned by the end of the event or the following day.
