Residence Move-in Fall 2021

We are committed to a safe and efficient Move-In experience. This year, we will be welcoming 2021-22 residence students to campus over nine days (Friday, August 27 to Saturday, September 4). For international students who will be arriving from outside of Canada, your Move-In journey will be a little bit different. For more details, view our International Student page.

August 27 – September 4: Extended Residence Move-in

We are committed to a safe and efficient move-in experience. As such, this year we will be hosting move-in over nine days with students able to book to move into their residence building.

This change from our traditional Move-In weekend is one part of our commitment to the health and safety of our staff, students, and their families. To allow for physical distancing, each building will have its own move-in dates and times.

What to Expect During Your Move to Residence

  • Students will be allowed to bring two (2) helpers to campus to assist them in moving their belongings into residence. We encourage all helpers to be vaccinated and be from the student’s immediate household.
    • Students and their helpers will be required to follow all COVID-19 health and safety protocols set by the university including completing the provincial safety assessment before entering any university buildings and wearing a mask while indoors.
    • Our staff will also be following all COVID-19 health and safety protocols set by the university at the time including wearing a mask, socially distancing, and following proper hand washing procedures.
  • Designated outdoor check-in tents will be set up near buildings throughout campus.
    • Students residing in buildings with elevators will be able to borrow a campus cruiser wagon to assist with moving in from the check-in tent.
    • Vehicles will be able to pull up close to residence buildings during their time slot for ease of unloading.
    • Specific traffic and vehicles routes will be shared on this page closer to the first move-in date.

Prepare to Get Some Exercise

  • Move-in time slots are 30 minutes for buildings with elevators and 60 minutes for those without elevators. Please move all your belongings into your room by the end of your time slot.
    • If your helpers wish to stay longer, please be sure to move your vehicle from the unloading zone to a parking lot.
  • We encourage everyone in your party to wear comfortable shoes and clothing as there may be periods of extending walking or climbing stairs during your move-in. If you or anyone in your move-in group has an accessibility need, please contact housing@mcmaster.ca for assistance.

What You Will Need to Check Into Residence

  • Photo ID
  • Your residence check-in barcode (this will be emailed to your McMaster email account before your move-in day – please keep this handy!)
  • Proof of vaccination (unless you have an approved exemption request)
    • We will require to view either physical copies of your vaccination receipts or we will accept images of your vaccination receipts
    • You can get copies of them here, if you were vaccinated in Ontario

How to Check-In

  • Designated outdoor check-in tents will be set up near buildings throughout campus.
  • Students residing in buildings with elevators will be able to borrow a campus cruiser wagon to assist with moving in from the check-in tent.
  • Vehicles will be able to pull up close to residence buildings during their time slot for ease of unloading.
