Unit Description

Housing & Conference Services is seeking an enthusiastic, eager to learn, and motivated McMaster students for the position of Communications Assistant.

This position will work in a supportive team environment to welcome all inquiries through our digital front-facing communications (Live chat, email, social media) channels in a 24/7 environment. As well, we will have a dedicated person dedicated to the “Content Creator” portfolio who will focus on building media content that will be shared widely across a variety of mediums. This person should be proficient with social media and video editing software.


Accountabilities

Provide support in electronic media technologies (specifically live chat) to connect HCS to students and guests.
  • Greet visitors and answer inquiries via live chat. Escalate non-routine inquires to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in the research, development and maintenance of communication content.
  • Compile data detailing the use of communication outlets, and provide suggestions for improvements based on observations.
  • Collect, draft and write content utilizing provided templates for communication related activities.
  • Contribute to digital communications projects, including contributing story content for social media, websites and YouTube.
  • Collect, draft and write content utilizing provided templates for communication related activities.
  • Assist in the development of training materials.
  • Run reports and perform standard analyses according to established guidelines.
  • Update and maintain files, correspondence and records according to established guidelines.

Qualifications

Education: Community college diploma or equivalent, or enrolment in relevant university program.

Experience: Experience working and programming various Web and Social Media platforms.

Additional Information

  • Full-time dates: May through September, 2024
  • Schedule: Monday- Friday with some weekend work needed depending on operation needs
  • Hourly rate: Starting at $17.00/hour

This role is not flexible with Welcome Week Rep positions.

No vacation requests: May at Mac weekend (TBD), Move-in weekend.
