A Connection to Hamilton: Lincoln Alexander

Lincoln Alexander Hall is named in honour of Lincoln Alexander, a distinguished Canadian leader, veteran, lawyer, and proud McMaster University alumnus.

A trailblazer in Canadian history, Alexander became the country’s first Black Member of Parliament and first Black federal Cabinet Minister before serving as Ontario’s 24th Lieutenant Governor. Throughout his life, he was a strong advocate for education, opportunity, and community.

Naming the residence in his honour reflects those values and recognizes his lasting impact on both McMaster and Canada.
