Living in a Single

Learning to live in close quarters with people you don’t even know can be a challenge – even to students who live in single rooms. While you may not share a room, you may share common rooms, a bathroom, study rooms, etc. You are a member of a community on your floor, one that is based on open communication and mutual respect. As a student in a single room, you may not face some of the same issues as your neighbors living in doubles or quads. You are still part of the floor living unit, and will need to learn to communicate with your neighbors regarding your wants and needs. Remember that your actions have consequences on others, as theirs will on you. Even though you may be living alone, your neighbors may not appreciate a booming stereo while they are trying to study or sleep. Get to know your neighbors and ask them about their study and sleeping patterns, sharing your own with them.
