This community is for students with a love for all things outdoors and a passion for the natural world. The Outdoor Leadership LLC gives students the opportunity to develop and grow their skills in outdoor education and leadership, take part in outdoor adventures, like field trips and overnight trips, and explore the beautiful natural lands around McMaster and in the greater Hamilton community. Students will not only get outside – they’ll learn more about local conservation issues, connect with environmental groups on and off-campus, and discover ways to live more sustainably in residence and beyond.
Why Join the Outdoor Leadership Living Learning Community?
Students who are a part of the Outdoor Leadership Living Learning Community will have the opportunity to:
- Understand local and global sustainability and conservation issues
- Learn the skills necessary to lead outdoor education
- Explore career options related to conservation, sustainability, and outdoor leadership education
Each Living Learning Community offers a variety of activities and programs that make up key parts of the residence experience. We strongly encourage residents to take advantage of the many of the unique activities and events offered. Students can participate in as many or as few LLC events as they would like but the more events you participate in the more opportunities you will have to connect with fellow students and other members of the McMaster community.
Programs & Opportunities
Outdoor Leadership students will meet McMaster faculty and staff members in a variety of disciplines and discuss sustainability and outdoor education within McMaster’s natural context.
Events for this community include nature hikes throughout Hamilton and other parts of Ontario, guest speakers, themed workshops, volunteer opportunities, overnight camping and canoe trips and other events and activities planned by students and staff within the Outdoor Leadership community. Outdoor Leadership residents will have a number of opportunities to participate in the academic and social aspects of the university and the surrounding community. Within the residence hall, students will have access to academic resources, volunteer experiences and professional workshops.
Outdoor Leadership will help residents get connected to the McMaster community by introducing them to experiences within the campus and Hamilton community. Students will be encouraged to branch out into the community with tours, social events and volunteer experiences at the university and surrounding area.
