Residence Fees

Students are responsible for paying the full residence fee for their assigned room. A $600 residence deposit, submitted when an offer of a residence guarantee is made, is part of the overall residence fee. All students living in residence are required to purchase a meal plan.
Meal plan costs are not included in the residence fees quoted. Your fees include:
  • Your accommodations – which vary by residence
  • Wireless Internet in each residence building (more info)

Residence Meal Plan is an integral component of living in any of the McMaster University Residences and all students living in residence must purchase a mandatory meal plan. As a student living in Residence, you must make a meal plan selection based on the residence building assigned to you. Students who do not make a selection will automatically be allocated a Regular Meal Plan from the applicable mandatory group.
The meal plan fees quoted below are for September-April 2018-2019 (pending university approval). Please visit the Hospitality Services website for further meal plan information. Here is a listing of the available meal plans:

Washroom Definitions:

Washroom that is connected directly to a room and shared with only the occupants of the bedroom (single = one occupant, double = two occupants.) Students are responsible for cleaning and providing supplies for their washroom (i.e. hand soap & toilet paper).
Washrooms that accommodate only one occupant at a time and are shared with all students on the floor. Washrooms are cleaned by Facilities staff.
 1 washroom to share with 2, 4 or 6 occupants. Students are responsible for cleaning and providing supplies for their washroom (i.e. hand soap & toilet paper).
2 washrooms to share with 4 occupants.Students are responsible for cleaning and providing supplies for their washroom (i.e. hand soap & toilet paper).

All other room types are traditional spaces that have multi-user washrooms located on each floor and used by all students on the floor. Traditional washrooms are cleaned by Facilities staff.

Property Tax Credit for Residence

As a residence student you may claim a property tax credit of $25 when you file your income tax return; this does not require a receipt. This is the only claim you may make for residence expenses. Your residence fees are not deductible; therefore, the University does not issue tax receipts.
