Innovation & Society

McMaster’s Residence Life Office has partnered with the Faculty of Engineering to create a dynamic experience for first-year engineers. Students in this community will have access to programming aimed at building critical thinking, creativity and communication skills. First-year engineers in the Innovation and Society LLC will learn a variety of practical skills essential to engineering. Through workshops, guest speakers, and competitions, students will become better problem solvers, critical thinkers, and effective communicators.
Students who are apart of the Innovation & Society Living Learning Community will have the opportunity to:
- Creatively develop solutions to challenging problems
- Developing problem-solving skills
- Connect with other first-year and upper-year engineering students
Programs & Opportunities
Innovation & Society students will meet McMaster faculty members and community experts in a variety of disciplines and discuss skill-building practices essential for future engineers.
Events for this community include faculty and community expert visits, engineering field trips, skill-based workshops, and design challenges. Innovation & Society students will have a number of opportunities to participate in the academic and social aspects of the university and the surrounding community. Within residence, students will have access to academic support, professional workshops, and a mentoring program.
Innovation & Society will help residents get connected to the McMaster community by introducing them to experiences within the campus and Hamilton community. Students will be encouraged to branch out into the community with tours, social events, and volunteer experiences at the university and surrounding area.
